Europe’s largest TV manufacturer grows with Beckers
Who is Europe’s largest TV manufacturer? Few consumers would be able to give the right answer — Vestel. Holding around 25% of the European market, Vestel will produce some 15 million televisions from two factories in Southern Turkey in 2006 and 95% of their production is exported. The reason that the business is not widely known outside Turkey is that it "builds and badges" televisions for a large number of well-known brands.
Superlatives trip off the tongue when talking about Vestel — Turkey’s largest exporter with revenues over US$ 2.5 billion, its products sold in 110 countries, state of the art factories using Vestel-developed software in production...
Vestel produces consumer electronics and white goods. The TV portfolio boasts a full range of models from small portable CRT sets to 42-inch LCD sets and 50-inch plasma screens. Naturally the coatings must match each re-seller’s requirements for appearance and performance. Add in Vestel’s dedication to total quality and serious commitment to the environment and it was natural that Vestel should turn to Beckers, who already supplied many European TV factories.
Beckers recommended BeckquaCryl waterborne systems which it now supplies from Liverpool for use in Vestel's two paint shops, coating TVs, DVDs and set top boxes. Supply is now starting to Vestel’s air conditioner division.
To support this logistically Beckers is making a major investment in a separate, dedicated manufacturing area, a buffer stock in Turkey and an efficient and effective logistical infrastructure. Technical support is located in Turkey and regularly backed up from Liverpool.
Future styling developments are towards gloss finishes particularly on high-end plasma and LCD televisions. Although initially these will be basecoat/clear systems (currently two pack waterborne polyurethanes), Vestel will in due course move to clear UV coatings.
