Becker GreenLine®
Environmental concern and environmental legislation have been driving coatings development and use for the past three decades towards coatings with lower environmental impact ("LEI coatings"). These coatings fall into four main families, although there is some overlap:
- high solids
- water borne
- powder
- radiation cured
However, few coatings producers have been able to offer a full range of these coatings, as investment in the technology (not only in research, but especially in application know-how) is expensive, and must be sustained over a long period of time. Becker Industrial Coatings' expertise is "leading edge". Becker Industrial Coatings also understands that, for a major user, the switch to LEI coatings is not just a buying decision, but may call for extensive evaluation and development, even product and factory re-design. Here, the advice and support from a knowledgeable coatings partner may be invaluable.
Legislation also varies from country to country. Becker Industrial Coatings has the experience and skills required to tailor technology to local legislation.
Since 1992, under the Becker GreenLine® brand, Becker Industrial Coatings has actively marketed and promoted a wide range of coatings with low environmental impact. Under the Becker GreenLine® programme, Becker Industrial Coatings undertakes to:
- provide coatings that fulfil the requirements of local and, where appropriate, European environmental legislation — these coatings will not have disproportional impacts elsewhere in their life cycle
- advise customers on the implications of environmental legislation for them, related to the total painting process
- anticipate future trends in environmental legislation in order to be proactive in product development and to keep customers fully appraised of future requirements
- provide support for, and collaborate with, customers making the transition from traditional to low-VOC coatings, in order to maximise paint performance and optimise production conditions.
Becker GreenLine® products
Becker Industrial Coatings supplies a wide range of coating types within the Becker GreenLineŽ brand for low VOC applications, including:
- Beckqua: A comprehensive range of water borne coatings offering high performance materials suitable for most industrial coatings applications. The series includes air-drying & stoving systems, primers & finishing paints, and offers both 1 & 2 component technologies.
- BeckquaFlex: A specially formulated water borne coating system suitable for application onto flexible, semi-flexible and indeed rigid plastic substrates, including wheel trims, plastic bumpers and mobile phones. The system encompasses primer, base coat & clearcoat technology.
- BeckrySol: A range of high solids offering excellent mechanical properties combined with good corrosion resistance. Today these are principally two-component, one- and two-coat systems for the ACE market, but the range is expanding as new technologies emerge.
- BeckryMold: This is a state-of-the-art 100% solids coating which allows the injection of a paint film onto a plastic surface while the component is still within the mould. Unlike earlier systems, BeckryMold can be injected at high pressure without the need to open the mould first. It is available as a topcoat or primer (conductive or non-conductive).
- BeckquaSoft: A two component, water borne, soft-feel coating for plastic components such as airbag covers, interior trims, dashboards, mobile phones and computers. The material has excellent adhesion to a wide variety of plastic substrates and exhibits excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance.
