Quality control for precoated metal
These are some of the main quality control tests applied to pre-coated coil.
Before coating:
- Testing of the metal substrate: setting-up, physical and dimensional characteristics
- Testing of paints to be applied: viscosity, colouring, gloss, and physical performances
During coating:
- Continuous testing and adjustment of the surface treatment processes
- Testing and control of the thickness of the paint applied, baking temperatures and speed of the production line
Immediate testing on leaving the production line:
- Checking the physical appearance and testing gloss, colour, hardness, adhesion, flexibility, resistance to cracking and indentation characteristics
Testing for corrosion-resistance:
- With salt or other chemical sprays
- By immersion in water
Testing for ageing:
- Heat-resistance
- Accelerated tests for resistance to ultraviolet
- Exterior exposure, in different surroundings and climates over a long period of time

Specific testing:
- Stain-resistance (household electrical goods)
- Welding capability (industrial and automobile markets)
- Resistance to abrasion (industrial and construction markets)
Continuous testing and control is carried out during the coating process to ensure the satisfactory performance of the final product.
